"The Coalition’s leadership, in coordination with the international community, has taken steps to maintain freedom of navigation and global trade through the Straits of Bab al-Mandeb and the southern Red Sea," said the coalition for the support of legitimacy in Yemen.
The statement was made by the Saudi Press Agency on Wednesday, a week after al-Houthi targeted a Saudi tanker in the Strait of Bab al-Mandeb (which about 4.6 million barrels of oil per day pass through).
The coalition spokesman, Col. Turki al-Maliki, said that "the measures taken" did not make clear what was in conformity with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, foremost of which was resolution 2216.
"The Coalition for the support of legitimacy in Yemen continues its efforts, in coordination with the international community, to maintain regional and international security and contribute to the stability of the world economy," the spokesman said.
He added that, , those actions had been evaluated by the coalition’s leadership in the past days ,"all terrorist acts of the al-Houthi militia, supported by Iran and aimed at the freedom of navigation in the Straits of Bab al-Mandeb and the southern Red Sea, most of which was targeted at a carrier Saudi oil».
"The continuation of the militias in this terrorist approach will cause an environmental and economic catastrophe that harms the interests of the countries of the region and the world," he warned.
Last Wednesday, the al-Houthi group attacked two Saudi Arabian oil carriers in the Strait of Bab al-Mandeb, opposite the Yemeni port of Hodeidah (western), prompting Riyadh to suspend the passage of oil shipments from the straits and negatively affected oil prices on the world market.
The al-Houthi group, on Tuesday, declared a unilateral moratorium on naval military operations starting at midnight, lasting for a period of two weeks, extendable by extension.
Saudi Arabia has been leading an Arab alliance since March 2015 to carry out military operations in Yemen, in support of government forces against al-Houthi, which has been in control of the provinces, including Sanaa, since September 2014.
